About My Clients

You feel sexually repressed, worn down, ashamed. You feel like if you had just grown up in a different environment, you wouldn’t feel hurt, confused, or angry. You might feel like an outsider, wanting to be yourself but don’t know how to build confidence or connection with others while doing so. You might worried about scaring people or not getting what you need because you can’t do it yourself.

My Background and Approach

I use a very individualized approach to psychotherapy based on the work of Carl Rogers and Albert Ellis. This includes a hybrid of a person-centered model with some sprinkling in of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My style of working is informed by research on trauma and how the body responds to traumatic events. I work with clients on identifying triggers and how those triggers show up in daily life. In practice, our session would function more like a conversation with me reflecting back what I am hearing you say and then asking follow up questions so I better understand your experience. Sometimes, I might propose a different perspective or view that might make your experience easier to digest.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a member of both the LGBTQ and disabled community as well as a person in recovery. I believe that every human being has value and that it matters more what you do than what you have. I currently volunteer as a crisis counselor at the national suicide prevention textline and have experience working in a transitional employment setting helping people develop the skills necessary to communicate and interact with others in a healthy manner upon entering the workforce. Because of my life and volunteer experience, I am very creative and adaptive to people’s unique circumstances and needs. Sometimes you have to open the door with your foot or be innovative about how you navigate the world. In my practice, I have room for everyone and I will work with you to live the life you want.
