About My Clients
I love working with individuals and couples. I have a soft spot for people who feel misunderstood or the "gentle giants." People are complex with many parts. I aim to get to know all these parts, even the ones that seem too frightening. I love to work with men who feel they have never had a safe space to express their emotions, and women who feel they have lost themselves to motherhood or romantic relationships.
My Background and Approach
I prioritize fostering a relationship built on empathy and compassion. I recognize that each individual processes events differently through their own unique emotional language. I aim to co-construct meaning during our sessions, not analyze or assume. I believe in helping clients tolerate their discomfort long enough to find meaning in their behavior, and ultimately initiate change. In addition to talk therapy, I often use art as a communication tool and a means for promoting growth. We conceptualize our troubles through words and reasoning, yet the non-verbal expression is often just as insightful. Art-making can help us reframe experiences, and engage parts of the brain that are not in use during speech alone.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I always questioned the push towards autonomy and the idea that people need to go "work out" their trauma on their own. Most of our trauma is relational and is played out in our relationships. I aim to provide that space and help my client's learn to ask for support, and still recognize what they are responsible for. I feel that there is an unrealistic idea of what our relationships should look like and this is at the root of so many of or conflicts. I want to normalize the uncomfortable parts of life and help people learn ways to cope with these inevitable dark moments.
