About My Clients
I have experience working within the foster care system, non-profits, and adolescent residential treatment centers. I have extensive experience working with children, teens, and young adults that identify as queer and neuro-divergent. I also have knowledge working with individuals who experience PTSD, ADHD, self-harm, substance use, and mood disorders. I approach therapy with the philosophy that we are doing the best we can with what we have, and that deserves some recognition.
My Background and Approach
I received my Master's degree from the University of Arkansas School of Social Work. I have spent my time as a therapist primarily with adolescents in residential treatment centers, but have worked with a variety of clients. I utilize trauma-informed interventions and work to meet the client where they are at by providing a safe and welcoming environment. I offer worksheets, homework, and a variety of different modalities to offer psychoeducation focused on what we identify would be beneficial. I believe that therapy is like taking a crumpled ball out of a trash bin, flattening it out, and folding it up before returning it to the bin. Therapy doesn't take the trauma or hurt away, but it helps make it feel less big and overwhelming.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we are all trying the best we can with what we have. This philosophy validates the struggles and energy it takes to navigate the complex world we all live in. It also means that just because we are at a certain point in our lives, doesn't mean we couldn't work on changing it. I have worked extensively within the trans/gender diverse community and advocating for equal rights for gender affirming care. My favorite mantra is: Trans rights are human rights, black lives matter, no person is illegal, and all families are valid.
