Harm reduction, or harm minimization, accepts that idea that many people can’t or won’t completely stop using drugs or alcohol. The term “harm reduction” refers to a framework for helping reduce the harmful consequences of use when abstinence is not a realistic option. Although harm reduction was originally and most frequently associated with substance use, it is increasingly being applied to a multitude of other behavioral disorders. A core tenet of harm reduction is a relaxation on the emphasis on abstinence as the only acceptable goal and criteria of success. Instead, smaller incremental changes in the direction of reduced harmfulness of drug use are encouraged and accepted. Think a therapist armed with harm reduction techniques might be right for you? I am passionate about providing a space for people to be celebrated for being their authentic selves. I honor and respect the strategies clients have learned that support them in coping and surviving. Together, we can develop more awareness of how these coping strategies and patterns serve you, and when it is supportive, work to find new ways of relating with yourself and others.

I tend to attract clients who are experiencing anxious thoughts and rumination, cycles of addiction, or codependent relationships. These struggles are often ways we seek to meet our needs for comfort, connection, or stability, even if they don't always provide the lasting fulfillment we're looking for. It’s natural to seek comfort and connection in ways that feel familiar, and with understanding and support, we can uncover other ways to tend to those parts of you that long to be seen and met.

Often, we're taught to shy away from the uncomfortable: the wounds, the hurt places. We label them as “bad” or “problems”, and do whatever we can to cope, instead of healing that pain. I specialize in working with folks who have experienced trauma, feel they don’t fit into society’s boxes, or seek deeper self-exploration. Together, we reconnect to your body and emotions, break out of old patterns that aren’t serving you, and move into the life you want.

I am passionate about working with: People of Color; Trans, non-binary, and genderqueer individuals, and their partners and families; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Queer folks; Polyamorous and non-monogamous individuals, couples, families and other relationship configurations; Activists and organizers involved in social justice movements and struggles for liberation; and especially, people at the intersections of these categories.
Life can be challenging, and at times, despite our best efforts we can feel stuck or lost. I help clients reduce stress, and shift their relationship to painful emotions. I frequently work with people around boundaries, relationship concerns, life transitions, and issues related to gender identity.

My clients are leaders and high-level professionals. Smart, successful and strong, they often start therapy after something happens in life taking them off their usual course of success and achievement. They initially feel stressed, overwhelmed, exhausted and scared–sometimes caught in a negative cycle of worry, fear, and fatigue. Yet by using the same focus and work ethic that helps them in life in therapy, my clients make steady progress towards regaining a sense of identity AND peace of mind.
