Learning disabilities, or learning disorders, are umbrella terms for a wide variety of learning problems. Learning disorders look very different from one person to the next – some may struggle with reading and spelling, while others have a hard time with math. A learning disability is not a problem with intelligence or motivation – it is something that people are born with. A child diagnosed with a learning disability is not stupid or lazy. Even though we now know how to mitigate the effects of most learning disorders with specific, targeted approaches to learning, they can be frustrating for children. Children with a learning disability may have difficulty in the classroom and outside of it and sometimes have trouble expressing their feelings, making friends, calming themselves down, or reading nonverbal cues. A qualified mental health professional can help. If you, a child in your care, or a family member has been diagnosed with a learning disability, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s experts today.

As a Queer clinician, I am particularly interested in Queer flourishing, providing gender-affirming care and related identity concerns, though obviously I also work with people who are not queer-identified. It is a common human experience to feel "Othered." My background makes it easy to identify with anyone's experience of feeling like an outsider, however, that shows up for you.
Anyone, at any age, can be creative and use art materials- and our art therapists help facilitate therapeutic interventions to help process trauma and emotions. Art therapy is a neurodivergent-affirming form of care, as it allows someone to process, communicate or express feelings in an alternate way than traditional talk therapy. Our art therapists and providers utilize a trauma-informed, inclusive, affirming lens of care.

I believe in Dr. Stephen Shore’s quote, “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.” If you are looking for growth or emotional healing and have an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis (ASD), or share attributes with ASD, I would love to help! I practice mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy, ages 11 to 111. You can meet with me outdoors via walk and talk/outdoor seated therapy, or by traditional telehealth/in-office therapy.
