About My Clients
My passion and purpose is working with survivors of relational trauma. This can include the effects of living with betrayal, infidelity, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and addiction, or the stress of parenting a child with a disabili. It can also include (or be worsened by) systemic traumas for members of marginalized groups. For children, it may include anxiety, family stress, or just feeling like they don't fit in. I will work with you to build a safe, supportive space for healing.
My Background and Approach
There are many ways to approach the work of therapy, but what they all share is a way of giving the brain a new, supportive experience in relation to experiences, thoughts, and emotions. I operate largely from a trauma-informed, psychodynamic framework: respecting the ways the past shapes us, gently paying attention to the signals our bodies send us that may not reach our conscious mind, and focusing on the use of the therapeutic relationship as a tool for healing. I have a Bachelor's Degree from Princeton University and Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. I trained at the YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley, where I worked with survivors of sexual trauma and domestic violence, as well as pre-teens and adolescents with a variety of concerns. I also have two decades of experience with Twelve Step recovery.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am supportive of Twelve Step recovery, and if you have spiritual beliefs that are a support to you, I am comfortable incorporating those into therapy. I believe that mental health resources should be available to all, and I never want financial considerations to prevent anyone from accessing therapy. If you have concerns about costs, please let me know. I do accept clients on a sliding scale and would be happy to work with you to make sure therapy is affordable.
