About My Clients
Are you an anxious 20-something bi woman trying to figure life out? What about a 30-something man with a trauma history who has trouble letting down his guard? A trans person trying to figure out what their options are? Maybe you've been diagnosed with Bipolar, fearful of what this might mean for the rest of your life. Perhaps a high-achieving student or career professional struggling with perfectionism? Maybe you are neurodiverse and trying to navigate social interactions? If so, I've got you!
My Background and Approach
I strive to practice with a warm, down-to-Earth approach grounded in research-backed interventions. I like to use examples from my own life to demonstrate the therapeutic skills I teach, and work to get to know my clients to tailor treatment to each person’s specific needs and therapy goals. I have two main promises to all clients (1) I will always use empirically-validated interventions and, (2) I will never ask you to do something that I would not do myself. My primary treatment modality is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) which focuses on thoughts, emotions, and behaviors associated with our anticipation of, or reactions to, everyday experiences. It also lends itself to integration with other modalities so I can create a custom treatment plan for each individual client's needs, wrapping in DBT social skills, IFS parts work, motivational interviewing, or good old fashioned problem-solving interventions. The trauma interventions I use also fall under the CBT banner.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I decided to become a therapist after getting support as a teenager and early 20-something for anxiety and trauma-related issues. My practice is informed by lived experience as well as my history working in community mental health and hospital settings. I'm a member of the LGBTQ+ community as a bi woman but also have the passing privilege of being married to a straight, cis man. Diversity and cultural sensitivity is important to me as someone from an immigrant, refugee family on one side. I also have veterans in my family and remain passionate about helping members move past their service experiences. I believe in practicing honesty with my clients and that authenticity is the foundation of relationship building. I want my clients to know that questions are welcome and to feel they can trust in my ability to hold and help manage even the most scary-feeling (or silly-feeling) thoughts and experiences. Therapy is supposed to be a place of understanding and growth.
