About My Clients
We usually start by exploring a client's goal or ideal life experience, and then we work backwards from there to figure out blockers, underused strengths, derailers like trauma or poor self-image, and we figure out a unique path forward. The approach is curious, collaborative and fun!
My Background and Approach
I’ve worn many different hats, originally as a litigation attorney in Ireland where I grew up, through working in corporate finance in the US, Australia, and China, to working as a therapist for a community activist organization. I was drawn to therapy having seen firsthand the enormous value therapy can bring us in improving enjoyment of our lives. My approach is supportive, empathic and partnership based so that you can explore your experiences in a safe and culturally sensitive environment. I am trained in Relational Psychoanalysis, which means that I help clients to identify subconscious thoughts and behavioral patterns, for example how they show up in relationships. Once we become aware of the parts of ourselves that function on auto-pilot, we can decide what patterns best left in the past. I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which focuses on the daily choices we make to help us to find fulfillment by either making different choices or by making peace with those we cant.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that honesty and directness are essential skills for therapists so that our clients can recognize patterns that don’t serve them well. I will share the truth of what I’m seeing with kindness and respect. Sometimes this means exploring uncomfortable experiences or feelings, and I will be your partner as you come to a deeper understanding of these experiences, and free yourself of their hold on you. I invite you to start by imagining what the best outcome could look like for you, and we will go from there.
