About My Clients

A lot of the people I work with are in the LGBTQ+ community - sometimes people come to explore these aspects of their identity, sometimes they just like to have a therapist with similar lived experience. My clients are folks who question the status quo, who aren't satisfied with society, and benefit from a therapist who will engage with them in questioning common assumptions or expectations.

My Background and Approach

I think a lot about stories. The stories we tell ourselves. The stories our families, communities, and societies tell us. Our individual and collective stories have very real and significant impacts on our lives. As a therapist I'll help you reflect on the stories that influence your worldview, sense of self, and relationships, exploring what you want to hold onto or let go of, and how to show up as authentically as possible in the face of stories we don't control. I think a lot about the ways we talk to ourselves, which are usually influenced by stories. One of my focuses is on helping people change their internal dialogue, creating more curiosity, kindness, and gentleness for oneself. Many people balk at this, thinking it isn't necessary or helpful to change their self-talk, but I've seen how powerful it can be and am passionate about giving others the space (and sometimes the push) to shift their relationship with themselves.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that our society is structured in such a way that it is hard for folks to be satisfied, safe, and connected, and for some it is especially hard (particularly people who are queer, disabled, BIPOC, or otherwise marginalized and oppressed). I also believe we all have the capacity to live a more authentic, connected, and intentional life, no matter our external circumstances, and that, especially when we come together, we can create shifts in our lives that promote joy, fulfillment, and resistance. I believe that it's important for me to recognize the harms that my professional field perpetuate. That it's important to recognize my privilege as a white person, and to consider how my status as a white clinician influences my work with individuals and my responsibility to work toward challenging and shifting systems of power in this field.
