About My Clients
My clients work hard, even when it's hard to do so. They trust me to help them take vulnerable risks and "lean in" to their feelings. They learn that their feelings matter, and start to behave this belief. When they experience a setback, we talk about it and we work through hard places together to get to better places. Many set themselves free of the shame, addiction, or other destructive behaviors they used to be tormented by.
My Background and Approach
My approach depends on your needs and what you ask for help with. I do not specialize in every mental health condition, and I will be transparent with you if I need to refer you to other professionals for this reason. My background: I am a summa cum laude graduate of MSU Denver with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Human Services. I am a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Northern Colorado with a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am an EMDR Approved Consultant and offer consultation to other therapists. I participate in more ongoing training and consultation than any other therapist I know, and I love learning and growing, too.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a big fan of what works. I use evidence-based methods to get the best chance of positive results. I'm also human, and as one of my mentors once said, "I try something likely to work and if it doesn't, I try something else." We're on this journey together... I am a volunteer facilitator for the Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP)/Trauma Recovery, who provides EMDR training to community mental health providers. EMDR is a highly-effective treatment for trauma that is used globally. It is a protocol-heavy method that requires solid training. Because of this, most EMDR training is expensive, and many therapists who work in community mental health are not paid a living wage, let alone an amount that affords them expensive training. HAP delivers training to community mental health agencies using some of the most experienced EMDR trainers in the world. I am proud to be a part of this organization and what they do.
