About My Clients
I really enjoy working with depression, anxiety, assertiveness issues, and boundary issues. However, with over 14 years of clinical work, I have experience in treating a multitude of problems. My ideal client is someone who is trying to find their way again, finding balance amidst the chaos of life. You may feel that you have lost your way, looking for which way is up. Often I find people just need to be reminded of what they already know, to be reminded of the strength they already possess.
My Background and Approach
I use an integrated approach in therapy, pulling from a variety of treatment modalities and therapeutic orientations. First and foremost, I am client-centered, meeting you where you are in this moment, free from shame and judgement. I use a lot of cognitive-behavioral techniques combined with mindfulness and acceptance therapy. I balance acceptance and heavy empathy with a straight-forward, no-nonsense approach. I teach skills to help you make positive changes while also identifying strengths you already possess. Life can knock you down and leave you feeling overwhelmed and not sure which way is up. I view therapy as a collaboration between you and I, working together to achieve the goals you would like to accomplish, rediscover your strengths, and develop better, healthier ways of coping and interacting with others. Sometimes we just need to be reminded of what we already know within us to make it through and find hope among the ashes and restore balance in our lives.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am an open-minded individual, accepting of pretty much any topic in the therapy room, and in my personal life as well. I find there is enough judgement floating around and being flung at each other - there is no room for that in my therapy room or in my life. I am an LGBTQ ally. I am open to various discussions of spirituality and how that is important in your life. I have studied multiple religions in school and in my personal time and have close friends of differing spiritual beliefs. I believe there are different ways that spirituality can inform and guide our lives. I make the distinction between spirituality (your personal journey with your higher power) and religion (man-made rules for how to walk that journey), and I'm much more interested in focusing on spirituality.
