About My Clients

If you feel like you are navigating life as fragmented parts of yourself while longing to be fully whole and genuine, I would love to work alongside you. I welcome and value the identities, emotions, thoughts, dreams, and experiences that you have been told to bottle up and hide away in shame. I am passionate about helping you find power over stress and anxiety, disordered eating, pain in relationships, religious trauma (e.g. purity culture), and systemic oppression of your identities.

My Background and Approach

I earned my master's degree in mental health counseling and my bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Georgia, and I have a background working with individual adults and couples at a college counseling center. I collaborated with clients to alleviate symptoms of chronic anxiety, stress, shame, and trauma in their day-to-day experiences, and I strive to create safety to explore and address the causes and history of these symptoms. I have a passion for working with religious and spiritual trauma and abuse, especially working with clients who are doing their best to navigate their spirituality in the dominant culture of Christianity (especially here in the southeast) or clients who are survivors of Evangelical purity culture. At the core of this is identity work, which is also why I am developing experience and receiving supervision to treat disordered eating. Finally, I believe that therapy may not always be comfortable, but it should always be safe.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I may have extensive training in mental health, but I approach counseling with the belief that you are the expert of your life, not me or anyone else. A counseling session is only 1 hour out of the rest of your week, so I seek to give you tools, techniques, and new perspectives that you can take and use outside of the therapy room. I do not believe that there is one specific way that therapy "should" be done, so my goal is to explore with you what works for you in therapy. I actively approach therapy with my privileged identities in mind, especially my identity of being male in an overtly misogynistic society, and I see it as a privilege and honor to be able to do this work. I strive to be anti-racist, body and sex positive, queer affirming, and I am a lifetime learner who constantly seeks to challenge my old belief systems. Also, I'm a big nerd with my favorite video game franchise being The Legend of Zelda and favorite movies coming from Studio Ghibli!
