About My Clients
Sometimes we have been struggling and we realize that something about our lives just is not working anymore. That sensation of life just not working or making sense could be something like feeling overwhelmed by stress, experiencing a life-changing event, going through a traumatic experience or even just starting a new job. I love helping folks 16+ navigate those challenging experiences and come out the other side with a deeper understanding of self and confidence in their own abilities.
My Background and Approach
To help clients move through events, I use a systemic theories that help me reflect clients' issues through a lens of greater context. I help clients see that maybe how they are feeling is actually completely normal, given the larger context of societal messages they are receiving. I am certified in Expressive Arts Therapy, which I enjoy using to help folks re-engage with content that may feel challenging to put words to, or sometimes just to have fun. I am trained in EMDR and use that to help clients who are navigating trauma, anxiety or depression. It is important to me that my clients feel a sense of autonomy in our shared space - you are the boss here, and you get to determine what happens. To that end, you also have ownership over your own healing process.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a cis, queer white woman, I am deeply invested in understanding and mitigating my own internalized racism, sexism, fat, trans and homophobia. I believe that my places of privilege are the areas where I need to learn the most and need to use my voice to amplify the voices of others. Sometimes using my voice means I need to step back and be quiet. My personal values are community, curiosity, and creativity. I use those values as guideposts to help me make decisions and move through the world.
