About My Clients

The people I work with usually come to therapy because they'd like something about themselves or their life to be different. Painful and sometimes life-threatening situations are usually a part of their past and they often struggle with experiencing and expressing emotion in some way. Often times, healing from trauma includes caring for wounds rooted in abandonment, rejection, violation, betrayal, etc. We typically see themes show up such as safety, power, control, attachment, grief, etc.

My Background and Approach

I am a person-centered, trauma-focused, psychodynamic therapist, which is just a fancy way of saying that I believe your experience is most important. I believe you are in charge of your healing journey, and I am right there beside you. I believe that you are all you need to be just as you are, right here and now.  It means that the relationship you have with yourself stays at the front of my mind as we work together. I remind us of the present moment and provide a safe relationship for your pain to rest in. I highlight things you might not see and bring more into your conscious awareness. I'm trained in EMDR and incorporate the Internal Family Systems Model. I use concepts and interventions from other therapy models so long as it makes sense for you and your healing. As I walk alongside you, I rely on body-based approaches, the inner-child lens, psychoeducation, and your strengths. This is to help bring forth your awareness, insight, and truth to promote a healthy, thriving life.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I practice from an anit-oppressive and justice-oriented lens because recognizing which systems in place have and continue to perpetuate harm, and which ones make it harder for us to thrive is an important step in healing. We must get curious and look beyond the individual. When someone realizes that systems meant to protect didn't, it can bring about many complex emotions. For survivors of trauma, systems that harm can be systems of white supremacy, patriarchy, religion, the justice system, capitalism, healthcare, ablism, homophobia, and more.  We have to understand how these systems might contribute to an environment where awful things can and do happen, and it isn't safe to talk openly and freely about it.
