About My Clients
Are you and/or your teenager struggling with stress, depression, irritability, worry, relationship issues, identity issues? That's something that therapy can help with. Especially in the last few years, race and ethnicity as well as sexual orientation and gender identity have come into the forefront of our minds. Part of the mission of our practice is to support you in processing how being you in our society affects how you feel about yourself and ultimately your mental health.
My Background and Approach
I graduated from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2018 with a MA in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Child and Adolescent Counseling. I have been working in the field since then and spent most of my time in a community mental health center, working with Medicaid clients from 5 - 80 years old. I work from a trauma-informed, client-centered framework and utilize Narrative Therapy and Geek Therapy. Essentially, your life is like a book - in order to understand where you are now, it's really helpful to have an idea on where you've been. Since you're the expert on your life, we will work together to rewrite past experiences/trauma and write the rest of your story together in an empowering way. Although I can work with any age, I specialize in teenagers with emotional and behavioral issues. I believe that most teenagers can benefit from speaking with a trusted adult, other than parental figures/teachers, about what is going on and how they can grow.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we all struggle with more than we think, especially those who are not considered privileged in the USA. I acknowledge my own privilege when working with individuals, but I also acknowledge my struggles as a queer, biracial, Latina woman working as a professional in this country. I have struggled with my own mental health since I was in elementary school and I have been working on improving my own sense of self, while also accompanying my clients on their own journeys. I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community, BLM, pro-choice, sex-positive, kink positive, and body positive. I love Disney, true crime, musicals, metal, animals, video games, geeky stuff, reading, knitting, and tons of other things I can't remember! If this sounds like a good fit, please reach out!
