About My Clients
I specialize in working with clients struggling with life transitions, including changes in roles or identity, and shifts in relationships. These moments in one's life frequently result in a mix of anxiety and depression, but can be crucial times for self-reflection and growth. My specialty areas are working with artists, people experiencing intimacy issues, couples with relationship challenges, those lacking direction or meaning in life, and LGBTQIA folks.
My Background and Approach
I work collaboratively with my clients to honor who they are, help make sense of their emotional responses to daily experiences, and guide them to become more authentic in their relationships. My approach is nonjudgmental, reflective and oftentimes playful. During our sessions, I help clients make connections between current problems and past struggles. Understanding these patterns builds self-awareness and helps create more adaptive ways of coping with stress and relating to others. I have been trained in Humanistic/Existential, Psychodynamic, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and draw upon these approaches to best respond to my client's concerns, goals and disposition.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Some of our greatest human strengths come from our creativity, empathy, humor and wisdom. These are the guiding values that shape my work with clients. I seek to strengthen these aspects within all my clients in an open, affirming, and culturally sensitive way. For those who have experienced a loss in one of these areas, the curiosity inherent in the therapeutic process can be a path to healing and restoration. While I practice as a generalist, I have several specialty areas. These are working with individuals and couples who experience intimacy issues, those struggling with lack of direction, individuals struggling with shame, and creative people.
