About My Clients
I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric and medical settings. I have experience helping clients with medical conditions, stress and anxiety, lgbtq+ related issues, & trauma and abuse. I also have experience working with depression and bipolar disorder. I work with people of all backgrounds, gender identities, religious/spritual affiliations. The common theme among my clients is a desire to manage life's challenges in a way that leads to more connection & authenticity.
My Background and Approach
I received my doctoral degree from the University of Miami in 1991, after completing my pre-doctoral internship at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. After that, I completed 2 years of post-doctoral training, also at UVa, in pain management and behavioral medicine. I've worked for over 30 years with patients with a variety of backgrounds and mental health concerns. The process I use to help you achieve your goals includes exploration of past and current experiences, cognitive-behavioral approaches and mindfulness practices, combined with a client-centered focus and an existential philosophy. I believe that you are the master of your own life, and my job is to help you find the perspectives, behaviors, and skills that enable you to lead a satisfying life according to your own goals and values.
