About My Clients
Your twenties can be a time of intense emotional upheaval. You may be feeling pretty lost and unsure of what you want your life to look like. Perhaps you are feeling like you are supposed to have everything figured out already and be 100% put together. Maybe you feel like there is something missing in your life, but you can’t quite put your finger on it. If you are going through a big (or small) life change and it is causing you stress, therapy may be the extra support you need.
My Background and Approach
One of the greatest causes of suffering for humans is attempting to have the positive without the negative. I wish I could tell you coming to therapy will solve all of your problems, but deep down we all know that is impossible. What therapy can do is help you navigate your negative thoughts, the hurt you have endured and trauma that you have experienced or are currently experiencing. In order to help you do this I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). The goal of ACT is to help you create a rich and meaningful life, while accepting the pain that inevitably goes with it. I feel passionate about this approach because it operates off the premise that it is normal for the human mind to create suffering – meaning that there is nothing wrong with you or your brain. With ACT you will learn skills to help you better understand how to manage the pain and suffering that inevitably comes with life in order to enjoy the beauty and joy that can also come with this life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe therapy gives you a time to nurture and explore the relationship you have with yourself and others. I think humans are often overloaded with messages that the need to improve themselves when they actually need is time to discover what they value and gain tools to help them build a life they feel connected with. I am committed to unlearning oppressive biases and beliefs including but not limited to white supremacy, racism, ableism, homophobia, and fatphobia. I believe that these systems of oppression hugely impact our mental health and come to play in the therapy room. I am always open to discuss and explore these topics. My personal values include connection, learning, and empowerment. I feel most embodied when I am around water and when I am able to link movement to breath. I find joy in spending time with my family and friends and singing along to whatever song is playing (even though I’m usually making up my own words). I look forward to connecting with you.
