About My Clients
I like to approach this process with compassion and empathy. I have worked with many people of all backgrounds, ages, socioeconomic statuses, gender identities, sexual orientations, races, and religions. The thing that all my clients share is a willingness and dedication to do the work. Therapy is safe place where do "emotional weightlifting." Some days can be easier than others, but the goal is to gain insight and understanding and cultivate a better life. Are you ready to do the work?
My Background and Approach
I have spent many years working in treatment programs, focusing on mental health and addiction. While substance abuse therapy is centered on building coping skills and learning relapse prevention strategies, I work with clients to understand the relationship they had with substances. By understanding our judgements and “inner saboteurs”, we can create a safe place to practice loving kindness, gain insight, and create long-lasting change. During the therapy process, there will be some tears, addressing fears, and hopefully, a couple good laughs. We all want to belong and feel understood. We all want a place where we can go to talk about our problems.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Therapy is an opportunity to learn about ourselves, begin the healing process, and most importantly, get some relief. I believe that there is a connection to how we move in the world, our thoughts that shape our beliefs, and emotions that are aspects of our thinking that shape our worldviews. My experiences, good and bad, have shaped the who I am. Learning about intersectionality, inclusion, intuitional racism, and oppression, I can see how it impacts the person and the people around me. Understanding these dynamics provides self-compassion and accurate perception of my strengths-- and I want to do that for my clients as well!
