About My Clients
John's clients typically have goals to learn skills related to Dialectical Behaviroal Therapy, encompassing mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. Clients may experience dissociative episodes, relationship difficultites and a negative self-perception prompting them to seek help. Clients' goals range from being able to maintain and build good relationships to learning how to deal with every day stressors.
My Background and Approach
John received his Master of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati and did internships at Cincinnati Children's Hospital through Adolescent Medicine and Transgender Health. John has done extensive research on health disparitites of at-risk populations, leading him to want to build bridges to provide access for everyone who wants mental health care. John has extensive experience working in administrative roles in behavioral health, and recently wanted to return to therapy by using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to be able to narrow disparities of at-risk populations. John has experience working in inpatient and outpatient settings, working with both indivdiuals and groups. John provides individualized treatment for clients and does a careful assessment of skill need at the start of sessions. Each client is unique, and many may need specific DBT skills upon entering into treatment. John also teaches as a DBT skills trainor through Emotion Control.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
John is passionate about access and integrating new and innovative approaches to therapy. In practice, John’s focus is helping individuals achieve emotional regulation while dealing with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, and navigating the world. In doing so, John challenges clients’ ingrained belief systems and coaches them on how to make changes within themselves to better manage their actions and reactions. John’s therapeutic approach is built upon process, as well as unpacking thoughts and emotions, combined with an element of behavioral analysis, while maintaining a warm and empathetic style John has experience of working in assessment, intensive group therapy, clinical leadership, and with LGBTQIA+ folks. For self-care, John enjoys playing piano, jogging, cooking, and traveling the world.
