About My Clients

I have a special fondness for the self-identified geeks, weirdos, and misfits. Conventional wisdom often does not apply nor would we want it to. I help people from all walks of life who are struggling with how they feel in their body, how to care for (or about) a body that seems to be betraying them, how to find a place in the world, or just having a hard time getting through the day. Many of the people I have served over the years have marginalized bodies in some way.

My Background and Approach

Color can represent the complexities of our inner experiences - that's why my office isn't "calm down muted blue" or "feel nothing beige"! My office has lots of color because all emotions are welcomed without judgement. And it's pretty. My background is also eclectic: I have had many professions and lived many places. [Synopsis: cisfemale, white, ablebodied/hearing, pan, poly, partnered, from upper-lower class upbringing and with lived experience of an eating disorder and other mental health struggles). I currently specialize in eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image issues. I was the clinical director for two residential care eating disorder programs, and prior to that, worked in the community seeing mostly Deaf/HH people. My approach comes from a social justice lens including anti-racism, fat positive, Deaf-Gain, etc; and typically means taking a hard look at how - yes, this is your individual experience, AND you are also not alone.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

We don't live in a vacuum. There is context all around us. This impacts our daily life as well as our inner experiences. This is usually a positive thing! We are wired to connect to others! This can become an issue when we lose track of our connection to ourselves in the mix. For this reason, I believe the connection you have with your therapist is the most important part of the process and I take that seriously. If you don't feel supported and safe it is very hard to take risks. In my own life I find connection through hobbies like D&D, crocheting, reading, archery, and geeking out about horror movies. My activism has been less-so lately as I have focused on self-care, but when I am active it is typically in support of Deaf issues, disability rights, eating disorder awareness/prevention, racial justice, and general mental health. “If it is inaccessible..., it is neither radical or revolutionary.” - Jonathan Herrera
