About My Clients
Have you ever gone to a therapist who didn't quite get what it's like to live as a person in a larger body in a culture that believe being big is wrong? I aim to serve larger-bodied people, the LGBTQ+ population and people dealing with anxiety. I am trauma-informed, and believe that a social justice perspective is essential to understanding the trauma clients experience. I have extensive experience serving clients who are dealing with Alzheimers and dementia as well.
My Background and Approach
I am a music psychotherapist. This means that in addition to traditional talk therapy we can use musical tools to enhance the therapeutic process. This can look like singing together or writing a song to express your feelings, banging the drum or listening to a song that really says exactly how you're feeling. You don't need to have any experience with music to be a part of music psychotherapy!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I deeply believe that people who exist in larger bodies deserve respectful mental health care, and that for many, it is hard to access a therapist who won't insist that weight loss is the answer. Our culture can be a source of trauma for many, and a therapist who doesn't acknowledge that is only hitting the surface of the problem. I am also passionate about working with older adults, and helping people learn more about aging and the complex identities older adults continue to have.
