About My Clients
Throughout my career I have provided individual, group, couples, and family therapy around a variety of struggles, including relational conflict, anxiety, depression, gender identity, sexual orientation, substance use, grief/loss, stress, and life transitions. I see clients individually from teens through adulthood and particularly enjoy working with couples, families, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
My Background and Approach
Early in my career I completed in-depth training and supervision in Functional Family Therapy, consisting of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing/Motivational Enhancement Therapies, and Mindfulness-based approaches. I continue to utilize these therapies in my work with clients, focusing on the presenting issue/concern and what resonates most with each client. My work always incorporates self-compassion, as I believe it is crucial to growth and healing. I often use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to support with skill building and a greater understanding of the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I also incorporate mindfulness and somatic work to support with increased awareness of the physical presentation of emotional struggles. I additionally utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in my work and am currently doing an intensive training program in Internal Family Systems.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My approach to therapy is one of compassion and non-judgment with the goal of helping my clients learn to approach themselves in similar ways. I believe that the therapeutic space is sacred and I feel honored to be a witness to every person’s unique journey. I will never take for granted the trust that is placed in me when a person chooses to let me into the most vulnerable parts of themselves. I have always been interested in personal growth and development and for that reason I believe that much of what I can offer others comes from maintaining a constant curiosity about myself. While I come to this work as a professional, I also have a keen awareness of my own struggles and strengths. I am someone who has faced and overcome challenges as well. I utilize my knowledge and skills to support others in doing the same. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my dogs. I love to read (when I can find the time!) and enjoy hot tea and hot springs.
