About My Clients
I work with clients who are interested in exploring the intersections and interactions of their identities including members of LGBTQIA2+, kink, trans, sex-positive, ENM/polyamorous, and neurodivergent communities, and how these identities impact their relationships with others as well with their sense of self through a trauma-informed and attachment lens. I seek to provide a space of inclusivity without judgement and to unburden my clients of the expectation of having to educate their therapist
My Background and Approach
I see myself as a professional within the field of mental health- I hold a lot of knowledge, training, and experience; however, you are the expert of your own experiences. I aim to be a steadfast and grounding supporting player through a journey that can often feel overwhelming and lonely at times. I believe therapy cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach. Each client is an exceptional individual with experiences wholly unique to them and is deserving of a person-centered approach. My affirming strengths-based approach integrates my formal training in CBT, Narrative, and Trauma-Focused therapies with somatic, mindfulness, and non-violent communication. I work with individuals 16 years of age and older on topics of anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, grief, sadness, relationships, and more. I’m a first generation Scottish-American, cisgendered, queer-identifying, AuDHD, white, femme-presenting human with master’s degrees in clinical mental health counseling and forensic psychology.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe a necessary part of my work is challenging and actively dismantling systems of oppression. This approach begins with de-centering the therapist as the holder of knowledge and expertise and moves to empower the client as the expert of their narrative and lived experiences. While trying to unburden clients from the responsibility of having to educate their therapist, I also see power in the acknowledgment of moments of uncertainty and need for further education on the therapist's part and seek these as opportunities for growth as a clinician. I am an active member of community causes including LGBTQIA2+, Black Lives Matter, Free Palestine, and reproductive rights protections. I'm an active member of my local roller derby league which prioritizes inclusivity and accessibility to all its members while empowering strong minds, bodies, and communities.
