About My Clients
I see a wide variety of clients! I most often see folks dealing with trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, issues related to neurodivergence, as well as issues around gender and sexuality. I think that it is important to embrace who you are at the core as opposed to trying to change the things that make you, you. I believe that developing a strong therapeutic relationship and equipping clients with skills to help them to deal with struggles are the two most important aspects of therapy.
My Background and Approach
I graduated from the College of Charleston with a BS in Psychology, and the Citadel Graduate College with a masters degree in Clinical Counseling. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, practicing in the state of South Carolina. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, I am very passionate about providing queer competent, affirming therapy. I utilize an integrative, client-centered approach. My approach is informed by acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, somatic experiencing, and solution-focused therapy. While I do have a background in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (tf-CBT) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT), I work to tailor the therapeutic approach to the needs of each client individually. I practice from a gender-affirming, sex-positive, intersectional, and client-empowering standpoint.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I strongly believe that as therapists we need to understand that there are many folks who are not only struggling with trauma and issues surrounding family and daily life, but that many are dealing with trauma inflicted upon them by the system itself. I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, strong supporter in the BLM movement, and I believe that as a therapist it is part of my job to use my privilege to lift up the voices and ideas of BIPOC.
