My Background and Approach
I approach counseling from a person-centered perspective, which focuses on your experiences and needs. You choose our direction. I believe that you are the expert on yourself and I am a guide working alongside you. When useful, I employ structured techniques, such as Cognitive-Behavioral or Dialectical-Behavioral skills. I also use an Internal Family Systems lens, which understands that each person has different parts that make up one whole person. You've probably said, "Well, part of me thinks I should choose option 1, but another part of me wants to choose the other option". We work to help understand the different parts of you to reach your goals. I am passionate about working with LGBTQ+ individuals and earned a Certificate in Multicultural & Social Justice Counseling. This means that I have specific training in serving those who have been historically marginalized in society. Together, we can work to make the changes you are looking for.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am committed to offering counseling services that involve and embrace all of the differences that each person brings to the room. Our identities change our experiences and affect how we live day-to-day. Race, ability, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and religion are all topics that come up in counseling because they are a part of us. I will work together with you to understand you and your lived experience.
