About My Clients
"I just feel so overwhelmed." "I'm not very good at relaxing." "I can't stop thinking about..." "I'm unlovable... all my relationships fall apart." "I feel worthless." Often, the impacts of trauma don't look the way they do on TV. If you've lived in an environment that was chaotic, or grew up wondering whether your parents were going to be there when you needed them, it's likely changed the way you relate to yourself and to the world. The good news is, you really CAN feel safe again.
My Background and Approach
In my opinion, there is no one right way to “do therapy.” For every client I have seen, I have taken a slightly different approach. Yes, I have my favorite techniques, like EMDR, parts work, and DBT. But I also recognize that having a safe relationship with another human is the most essential piece of this puzzle. I will do my utmost to ensure that you experience safety when we are meeting, and that every part of you feels welcomed. And by committing to this work together, we can help you get closer to the most natural, whole, and peaceful state that you are capable of embodying. I have over 10 years of experience as a therapist providing services to clients experiencing the effects of trauma, oppression, severe and persistent mental illnesses, and personality disorders. I have been fortunate to work with individuals of diverse identities, cultural backgrounds, and neurotypes. I sincerely love what I do, and feel lucky to be in a career that I am passionate about!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that people grow when they feel safe. I believe that we all strive for goodness. I believe that in the right conditions, everyone (yes, even you) can heal. I believe “normal” is a social construct. For me, deviations from the norm are expected, welcome, and deserve to be celebrated. My goal as a mental health provider is not to restore your mind to some societally mandated standard of normativity. Rather, my hope is to help you get closer to the most natural, whole, and peaceful state that you are capable of embodying. I believe it is impossible to look at a person in a vacuum. Our experiences are shaped by the environment in which we are living. This is why my values of social justice, equality, mutual respect, and care for the earth have become inseparable from my work as a therapist. So much of what gets dubbed "mental illness" nowadays is a predictable response to a host of systemic problems. We have to talk about these things to change them.
