About My Clients
I enjoy working with- Men/young men who are interested in exploring how masculine norms impact their mental health and relationships. Couples and individuals to create healthy relationships through non-violent communication and boundary setting. Parents who want to build a new tool kit to remain connected with and support their children as they move into adolescence and adulthood. Survivors of child abuse and intimate partner violence to heal, grow, and move forward from trauma.
My Background and Approach
I've been practicing therapy since 2015. At the most basic level I work in a relational way so our connection will be foundational. As I learn about your life, struggles, and goals, you will inevitably learn about mine (this is not a blank slate kinda thing). I’m here to listen and support. I like to laugh. I’m ok with disagreeing. I can hold space for venting and then I’ll probably bring it back to you and the changes you want to make within yourself (because that’s the only thing we really have any control over anyway!). My clients benefit from learning about the impacts of trauma on the brain/nervous system to understand common mental health symptoms (depression/anxiety) as normal survival responses. I teach body-based mindfulness tools for symptom management. I help clients identify different "parts" within themselves and improve their ability to honor and hold them in balance. Through attachment theory I help people uncover and update old unhealthy relationship patterns.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a cis-hetero White male, I am drawn to working with other men to build healthy masculinity that is vulnerable and strong. I believe that balanced emotionally intelligent men are good for the world. I also value holding therapeutic space for BIPOC, LGBTQ+ folks, and cis women who are interested in a restorative relationship with a guy that’s got almost all the privileges. Like so many of us, I’m in the process of unlearning racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and all the other nasty stuff I swallowed. In addition to Telehealth, I offer in person walking sessions in Golden Gate Park and other natural spaces around San Francisco because I believe that movement and immersion in nature is a powerful tool for health and healing. I find that being outside and walking together can be soothing from those who feel overwhelmed by the normal seated/high eye contact talk therapy.
