About My Clients
I really enjoy my work with the queer community and folks in marginalized communities; a lot of my clients voice that working with a therapist within the community changes the nature of therapy. I also love working with adolescents and young adults and strive to be the person my teenage self wish he had as a support. Many of my clients identify with geek culture or as artists and I love to bring personal interests and hobbies into an affirming therapy space.
My Background and Approach
I strongly believe that therapy is much more than sharing trauma and problems, but also conversational and an opportunity to share in moments of joy and celebrate successes. Nobody likes working towards inauthentic or forced objectives and we will work together as a team to create our goals and guide treatment. I am here to assist you in identifying goals that feel authentic and tailors my approach to your unique needs. I specialize in art-based interventions and adjust my approach to each individual client using evidence-based treatments. I believe the core of therapy is in the relationship clients form with their therapist and collaboration and feedback throughout the therapeutic process is very important to me. I take a very humanistic approach to therapy and incorporate different modalities including DBT, expressive arts, motivational interviewing, and CBT.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Connecting with your therapist is difficult; I've had a few therapists myself who I did not relate to. I've struggled with my own mental health throughout my lifetime and having some bad therapists was a big motivator in pursuing this career. I think that the role of therapists as agents for social change is not given enough attention and I believes in acknowledging and addressing the systemic issues impacting mental health. I am an advocate for the queer community and challenge myself to be a better ally to POC and marginalized communities. I am a huge animal lover and started volunteering at the animal shelter after the passing of my dog, who used to work with many of my clients. The human-animal connection is so natural and therapeutic and in the future I hope to bring more pet therapy and animal assisted interventions into my work. I identify as an artist and am a big supporter of the arts. I love to hear about my client's creative endeavors and see their successes.
