About My Clients
My clients come from many walks of life, and I especially enjoy working with teens, young parents, and adults. Life throws stressors and new experiences at us at all stages. Navigating relationship difficulties, a big life change, past trauma, or a significant loss? Therapy is a wonderful resource in these situations. It is too easy to become disconnected from others when anxieties and depression overwhelm us. I'd be happy to create a safe place to help you reconnect to a healthy sense of self.
My Background and Approach
I've enjoyed years of counseling since my undergrad in psychology (2007), and more in-depth client and patient work since getting my masters in social work (2017) and clinical license. I've worked with adolescents in an alternative high school, in inpatient rehab for substance use, with adults in hospitals (trauma unit, women's unit, and abortion clinic), and with parents and children in the family court system. I love working with teens, parents, and young adults. Maternal mental health is a specialty I hold dearly-- in my work as an abortion counselor and through serving as a social worker in the hospital's labor and delivery, postpartum, and antepartum units, I understand pregnancy as a very personal and powerful life event, with many special challenges throughout. My work with clients has been invaluable experience, and I bring that along with training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and a background of other strengths-based approaches, into practice.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a very liberal cis-gendered female, with a passion for helping empower those facing undue adversity in our society. I am a staunch proponent for women's rights, gender-affirming care, equal rights for all ethnicities and backgrounds, and an ally in the LGBTQ+ community. I've volunteered with the Austin Harm Reduction Coalition to support those addicted to substances in practicing safe use, and with Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, to help survivors of assault and their loved ones. I believe each person should be free to express and carry themselves in a way that is true to their identity, and to love and seek love as is healthy and consensual. Aside from humans, I'm a big animal lover-- a dog & cat adoption advocate (former shelter volunteer, and mom to a rescue pit bull), and a free-range backyard chicken keeper :)
