Anxiety is an emotion that serves as an alarm to threats and asks us to protect ourselves. However, many of us experience anxiety chronically or randomly. I find that people who experience significant anxiety often have intrusive and distressing thoughts. This can be confusing and defeating, especially when you have anxiety "for no good reason". I work with clients to address their anxiety in a way that promotes safety and soothing through a specific framework paired with mindfulness practices.

Many people struggle with depression and it is often experienced as a lack of motivation and energy. Depression is a protective mechanism that activates when there is "too much" threat and tells us to hide away. I find that the most damaging aspect of depression is that it usually causes us to become overly self-critical and hopeless. I work with clients who suffer from depression to learn how to genuinely take care of themselves in a way that provides self-compassion and increases energy.

OCD can be incredibly difficult and overwhelming. Those who have been diagnosed with OCD often tell me that they have "thought of everything" to combat the intrusive thoughts and have gone to great lengths to try to stop their ritualistic behaviors. OCD treatment needs to be systematic and intentional. I have worked with clients to create specific approaches that soothe the intense anxiety clients experience through mindfulness and somatic regulation.

Each person is unique and counseling should not be an attempt at standardizing the human experience. Though we all share common psychological and neurological systems, everyone will experience their thoughts and feelings differently. I utilize a Compassionate Focused approach that blends aspects of Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies, Mindfulness, and Person-Centered Therapy.
