About My Clients
I am passionate about working with trauma/PTSD, loss/grief, stressful life transitions, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, relationship issues, and attachment injury. I use talk therapy when addressing certain issues but I'm passionate about using therapies that go deeper to target and reprocess the source of symptoms to provide lasting relief. I enjoy working with clients who feel like traditional therapy hasn't been effective for them and offering them alternatives and new hope.
My Background and Approach
I utilize the power of a genuine, compassionate, and affirming therapeutic relationship to cultivate the safety and trust needed for change and the healing process. At the core of my philosophy is a respect for the inner wisdom of every person and the belief that the wisdom can be heard and understood more clearly when we receive the proper support, guidance, and structure. I have confidence in the human mind-body system to recover from even the most significant traumas and losses when given the right conditions and nurturing. I get to know my client’s unique life stories and collaboratively map out a treatment plan that reflects any specific needs or goals. I feel honored by the opportunity to encourage clients in connecting with their own inner voice and support them in what they discover about their personal path to healing and growth.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I first thought about becoming a therapist after seeing a counselor during high school. While in college I volunteered at the Crisis Center as a phone counselor and chose to get my Master's in Mental Health Counseling. My drive to become a counselor has been firmly rooted in my desire to offer others the same opportunity for safety and healing that I still continue to receive from my own therapy. The last 5 years of my career were spent working in a primarily conservative community and my most meaningful work was providing a safe and affirming place for my LGBTQ clients. I made it a priority to learn more about how to be an ally for the LGBTQ community and the WPATH standards so I could supply surgery and HRT letters for my transgender clients interested in physical transition. I have also made it a priority to take trainings in multicultural competency and strive to understand how each individual client's culture impacts how they experience the world.
