Infertility, postpartum depression/anxiety, pregnancy following loss (heIlo, anxiety!), loss/grief, trauma, relationship/communication issues and family conflict lead to discomfort, unpleasant feelings, disconnection and stress. My Background and Approach
I worked in community mental health for five years, serving an undocumented population and addressing issues of trauma, substance use, family conflict, ADHD, poverty, environmental stressors, depression, anxiety, communication issues and cultural/assimilation concerns. I also spent three years working at Juvenile Hall, working with incarcerated, gang entrenched teenage boys. I am now in private practice after having children (following several losses) and my approach is conversational, casual, warm, empathic and non judgmental. I curse often, use humor and sarcasm when appropriate and work collaboratively with my clients; after all, you are the expert of your own life! I utilize a supportive attitude to help you identify your own goals and help you make connections between your current behavior/mood/symptoms and previous history/narratives/beliefs. We can rock this together!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in kindness, non conformity, an open mind, compassion, empathy, humor, resilience, bravery, cursing, coping skills, self care, authenticity, milk chocolate (I know, I know, dark chocolate is healthier!), exercise, the outdoors. I am a long time vegetarian and animal rights supporter. I believe in women's rights and have gotten more involved in perinatal/postpartum issues and earned a PMH-C (Perinatal Mental Health Certification) following the stillbirth of my son. I believe we are all much more resilient than we give ourselves credit for.
