About My Clients
I work best with clients who are interested in focusing on their emotions and are ready to get vulnerable and authentic with themselves! My favorite clients to work with are: LGBTQIA+, ethically non-monogamous folks, kinky folks, or survivors of religious trauma.
My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy is primarily informed by Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT grew out of several schools of thought, including the Humanistic Perspective, Systems Theory, John Gottman's work on relationships, and Attachment Theory. One of the main goals of EFT is to change and heal through new and authentic emotional experiences--with yourself, your partner(s), or your family. EFT operates off of the "Four Ps:" Present, Primary Affect, Process, and Positions/Patterns. These create an environment where you can feel fully present and focused on your most important emotions, and then go even deeper to see how they impact your relationship with yourself and others. Much of what we will do in therapy will help create a compassionate and judgement-free space for your emotions and use them to heal from the inside out.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am an intersectional feminist who affirms queer, kinky, and ethically nonmonogamous folks. I believe that honest and authentic emotional vulnerability is the key to healing, and I believe that it often accompanies some discomfort. I believe that therapy should always be safe, but should not always be comfortable. When you feel safe enough to access something new or a little bit scary, it means that good work is being done. Although I like to get deep and vulnerable in session, I am a huge nerd and I will happily take a few minutes to discuss fantasy or scifi or the latest Marvel movie!
