About My Clients
I feel called to help my fellow women and members of the LGBTQ+ community rebuild their self-esteem, manage anxiety, and heal unresolved trauma. I also help families of LGBTQ+ youth gain understanding about their child's experience and empower them to provide the best support they can. My goal is to help heal the whole person, which is why I like to incorporate both CBT/DBT coping skills and Jungian concepts such as inner child work to ensure a holistic approach for my clients.
My Background and Approach
Over the last four years, my hope has always been that clients come into their sessions with me and feel seen. I aim to create a safe and empowering environment built on warmth and genuine connection. Every part of you is welcome in this space. We all have certain narratives we tell ourselves about ourselves, some helpful some not, and some of those stories aren't even ours. Together, we will identify the unhelpful stories, where they came from, and create a new story. I prioritize trauma-informed trainings and utilize this knowledge to help my clients stay in their window of tolerance when processing difficult thoughts or emotions. We will work to expand that window of tolerance and explore what you need to take care of yourself. I invite clients to practice the skills and tools we discuss in session in between sessions. Sometimes I assign book, movie, or TV homework as it applies to our conversations. Every session ends with the question, "What are you doing for self-care today?"
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, social justice is extremely important to me. I have marched for the Black Lives Matter movement, volunteered with the Feminist Women's Health Center of Atlanta, led a workshop on working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, and actively contact my representatives to advocate for marginalized populations. I believe social work and therapy are political fields and it is my ethical duty to not be passive or neutral in times of crisis. I am constantly working to unlearn my own biases and strive to decolonize my therapeutic approach. My motto as it relates to mental health is "everything in the DSM boils down to either trauma or capitalism".
