About My Clients
I provide both short- and long-term psychotherapy to adults and couples of all ages and diverse backgrounds with a wide range of concerns. These include the everyday struggles of love and work as well as family and career concerns, but also profound challenges such as mood and anxiety disorders, and longer-term relational trauma (neglect; physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; and domestic violence) and other emotional difficulties.
My Background and Approach
My therapy style is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs and goals. This sometimes means that I am a fairly quiet listener, while other times I am very interactive, asking questions, responding emotionally, or challenging you in ways that encourage your growth. Our work may range from focusing on immediate challenges, on skill building, or on deeply exploring you & your relational patterns. Central to my approach is curiosity about the family, institutional, and socio-political systems in which you are embedded - and how these shape your lived experience. Those who work with me often explore concerns related to gender & sexuality; race & ethnicity; conflict & relationships; privilege & marginalization; and grief & loss. We also work towards relieving the overwhelm, depression, anxiety, and loneliness that are characteristic of these experiences.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Through my own cultural identifiers and experiences, I am familiar with the impact of systemic oppression and social prejudice on mental health, particularly for those of us in BIPOC, immigrant, and/or queer communities. I am also interested in working with people with concerns related to their gender and sexuality – including those embracing diverse non-conforming expressions of both. In addition to English, I am fluent in understanding spoken Mandarin although I will respond mostly in English.
