My Background and Approach
My goal as a psychotherapist is to create a trusting and supportive relationship in which clients can explore their experiences, create insight, and overcome barriers that limit their full potential. I take an open-hearted approach to your psychological, emotional, and relational WellBeing, and consider your experience from all threads of your life; public, personal, cultural, gender, sexuality, spiritual, language, geography, work-life, family traditions, etc. My therapeutic approach is integrative and informed by humanistic, psychodynamic, and family systems theories. It is also anchored by social justice, ecological, and liberation approaches. I am interested in supporting individuals, couples, polycules, and groups in guiding them to understanding themselves and create new affirmative understandings that will catalyze an improvement in their wellness.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My counseling philosophy aims to create a confidential, affirming, and non-judgmental environment for clients to identify their needs. It is built on a foundation that validates the uniqueness and potential of individuals and embraces human diversity and its richness. I acknowledge the impact of prejudice, discrimination, oppression, power, and privilege. I understand that each individual's experiences are located within societal and cultural systems of power. I have a commitment to respect the individual complexities of clients' identities, life experiences, and the multiple contexts in which these occur. I am devoted to rethink the psychiatric “disease” model for diagnosing and treating mental, emotional, relational health challenges. I am more curious about individual’s strengths and different ways to support people as they navigate life’s challenges. Mental, emotional, relational, and health challenges are informed by a whole battery of external and internal sources.
