Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy, first developed in the 1980s by Marsha M. Linehan, to treat patients suffering from borderline personality disorder. Since then, DBT’s use has broadened and now it is regularly employed as part of a treatment plan for people struggling with behaviors or emotions they can't control. This can include eating disorders, substance abuse, self-harm, and more. DBT is a skills-based approach that focuses on helping people increase their emotional and cognitive control by learning the triggers that lead to unwanted behaviors. Once triggers are identified, DBT teaches coping skills that include mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. A therapist specializing in DBT will help you to enhance your own capabilities, improve your motivation, provide support in-the-moment, and better manage your own life with problem-solving strategies. Think this approach might work for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s DBT specialists today.
I welcome a racially and demographically diverse clientele of adults, including members of the LGBTQ community, for individual psychotherapy. I have been working with people struggling with abuse, worry, low mood, family strife, sleep disturbances, and life transition stress for over 15 years. My clients want better lives for themselves, to live comfortably and freely day to day. I work often with clients with trauma, anger, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and ADHD.

I believe in a strength-based approach, helping people use their inherent strengths to overcome challenges. When appropriate, I like to sprinkle in humor to create a warm and relatable atmosphere. Genuineness and comfortability is important, especially when taking the leap to start therapy, being transparent is something that I strive for.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

Taking the first step towards your journey of healing can be a difficult decision to make. Opening the path to what has brought us deep suffering can be scary and at the same time, exactly what we need in order to begin to build a life grounded on what is important to us. It is easy to lose sight of of these things when we spend our time trying our hardest to get rid of or avoid our pain. My hope is that I am able to guide you on this journey to find a clearer path.

Do you feel like the important people in your life don't really know you? On the surface, things may seem to be going well, but deep down you’ve felt anxious and down for a long time. Work, relationships, and responsibilities keep piling up, and you don’t know how to keep going or who to turn to. Each day feels like a battle and you realize that something needs to change. If this sounds like you, I am here to help.
Deciding to seek therapy can stir up all kinds of emotions. Maybe it’s been a long time coming, perhaps the thing you used to do to get by isn’t working anymore, or maybe life recently threw you a difficult curve ball. Either way, it can feel isolating trying to figure it out alone. Friends and family can be helpful, though sometimes you just need a safe space of your own to regroup and a safe person to walk with you while you do the hard work.

I work with clients who live with intense emotions. Deep depression, constant anxiety, intense anger, or on the other end—clients who tend to avoid feeling all together. Emotions often drive my client's choices—how they choose to behave or speak (or bow out of engaging/speaking) depends on how they are feeling. This way of living can feel chaotic and damage relationships. My clients become aware of their thoughts and emotions without being ruled by them.

Clients often come to me wanting support in managing the overwhelm in their lives. We live in such a fast-paced, over-stimulating and often judgmental world, and I provide a safe haven for clients to explore who they truly are. This enables them to make day to day choices that help them show up as themselves in their lives, and take control of their futures. I especially work well with clients with anxiety disorders, borderline personality and depression.
