Just like any other group, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) community faces mental health issues and unique challenges. However, LGBTQ individuals are almost 3 times more likely than others to experience a mental health condition, such as depression or anxiety. Additionally, more than half of individuals who identify as transgender experience depression or anxiety. The LGBTQ community is also at a higher risk for suicide. Young people are even more at risk, as they may experience a lack of support at home and fear, hatred or prejudice in school. If you are a member of the LGBTQ community and are facing mental health challenges, you don’t have to suffer in silence. Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s LGBTQ experts and get help today.

Clients often come to me wanting support in managing the overwhelm in their lives. We live in such a fast-paced, over-stimulating and often judgmental world, and I provide a safe haven for clients to explore who they truly are. This enables them to make day to day choices that help them show up as themselves in their lives, and take control of their futures. I especially work well with clients with anxiety disorders, borderline personality and depression.

I work with clients who live with intense emotions. Deep depression, constant anxiety, intense anger, or on the other end—clients who tend to avoid feeling all together. Emotions often drive my client's choices—how they choose to behave or speak (or bow out of engaging/speaking) depends on how they are feeling. This way of living can feel chaotic and damage relationships. My clients become aware of their thoughts and emotions without being ruled by them.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

You--and your partner(s), family, kids--seek a conversational partner who asks questions you've not asked yourself or been asked, inviting you to consider new possibilities. You desire an accomplice in solidarity with you, in resistance to a problem world that tries to convince you that you're the problem. You want to belong, not just fit in, embody your values, and live in connection with others. You need someone who understands that living under capitalism is harmful, and that you can resist.

The clients I work best with are adults who are navigating symptoms of anxiety and/or trauma. I'm particularly passionate about working with the C-PTSD population and people erroneously diagnosed with BPD. My ideal client is willing to engage in collaborative and reciprocal conversation. They desire meaningful change, growth, and healing. They are open to both processing the past and preparing for the future, leaning on their strengths and learned tools.
