About My Clients
I have worked with teens and adults of all ages, in various stages of addiction, crisis, and maintenance. My ideal client is struggling with the conflict between their intentions, goals, expectations and the seemingly impossible barriers keeping them from those things.
My Background and Approach
Growing up, I never saw myself being a therapist- instead, I pursued work in sustainable agriculture or environmental consulting. I've worked in a metal shop, on a chicken farm, a fish farm, and a poultry processing facility. Something was always missing. It wasn't until a summer Wilderness Field Instructor position working with teens in wilderness therapy that I began considering work in mental health. I use a trauma-informed, multi-model approach, drawing from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, bodywork (somatic techniques), and Emotional Freedom Technique, among others. I also believe we must examine the role your environment and community play as well. I want to get to know you and match my approach and techniques to your needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Honestly, life can suck; Environmental, economic, and systemic failures, constant distractions, competing priorities, and social pressures- all of these can leave us feeling burnt out, washed up, and frazzled beyond functioning. Those feelings of powerlessness and confusion drove me to start my journey into mental health nearly a decade ago. I've since discovered a passion for individual and community mental health. Life can be awesome! Finding passions, building relationships, and developing ourselves can bring richness and meaning into our lives in ways we never imagined. I love helping people feel like themselves again and find value in life.
