About My Clients

The people I work with have struggled with anxiety and depression or have experienced trauma, and they are all trying to figure out ways to manage, move through, and make meaning of these experiences. We work together to first find ways to cope with your unique distress, then we identify ways to start building the new normal that you want your life to look like. As you become more empowered to make these changes, we look to make these changes easy and sustainable to maintain.

My Background and Approach

I received my graduate level clinical training from one of the few Humanistic Psychology programs in the country, and am currently working towards my doctorate from a social justice oriented counselor educator and supervision program. I've worked in community mental health settings, university counseling centers, and in private practice. The core of my work stems from the belief that we can all move towards the life we want when we are in the right conditions. My role as your counselor is to help create the space for you to begin to explore what kind of life you'd like, what kind of barriers are in the way, and what making some of these meaningful changes might look like. Everyone's process is different, and I respect and value each person I have the privilege to work with.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a white male, I know that I have benefited from numerous forms of privilege growing up in this country. I attempt to use my position of power to be an advocate and an ally for many of those in non-dominant groups in our community. Many of the people I have worked with have been negatively impacted by systemic racism and bias, and we work together to try to heal from these situations and also protect them from future encounters. I also work with white people who are becoming aware of how their race has impacted their experience and shaped their identity. Most of us white people have not had to think about race so it can feel uncomfortable at first to encounter these types of conversations. But, to become more fully aware, we need to have these conversations and identify these dynamics so we can make changes that create a more socially just community.
