About My Clients
I blend deep compassion for my clients with direct, authentic reflection. I create safe, relational, and real space for clients to confront their defenses and connect with their core emotions. My goal is to help you move beyond overthinking and into the heart of your experience. My direct, relational style is especially effective for individuals who tend to 'over-talk,' use words to obscure their deeper feelings, or feel their emotions are unsafe to share with others.
My Background and Approach
First and foremost, I am a relational therapist. The research shows over and over again that the most important factor in any psychotherapy setting is a positive relationship between client and clinician. To that end, I work to develop real and meaningful healing relationships with all my clients. In our relationship, I will bring my experience in existential phenomenology and intersectional eco feminist psychology with a somatic and artistic twist. I use language, themes, and tools from parts work (IFS), EMDR, relational cultural theory, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I believe that life-long healing must occur at all levels of our being- mind, body, spirit, community, and environmental. In my capacity as a psychotherapist, I will keep an eye on all of these levels, and may recommend that we integrate other professionals to support your process, such as a medical provider, massage therapist, spiritual or community caregiver etc.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Anti-Racism. I am doing my work as a white therapist to un-tether myself and my professional community from white supremacy culture. Much of the field of psychology is still deeply entrenched in white supremacy and racial violence. Fat Liberation. All bodies, regardless of size or ability, deserve love, respect, and autonomy. The field of mental health is often coopted by individualistic and white supremacist notions of "wellness," that undermine the dignity and belonging of all bodies. I work to combat this cooptation in my practice and within my professional community. Queerness. I am an active member of the LGBTQ+ community. I feel that queer people have so much to teach us about how to love, build, heal, play, and celebrate this beautiful life. EcoJustice. In the face of existential environmental threat, we must step into right-relationship with our ecosystem and our global community. It is important to honor our feelings of love, heartbreak, and rage for our global ecosystem.
