About My Clients
Most of my experience is sitting alongside queer, transgender, and neurodivergent teens and adults with anxiety, depression &/or trauma. The world can be scary- we might cope by dissociating, isolating, doom-scrolling, using drugs/food and other ways of disconnecting. Connecting can be painful, particularly if your trust has been broken before, but you do not have to carry this alone. I am passionate about supporting you in finding your core: a whole person worthy of love, joy, and liberation.
My Background and Approach
Movement and dance have helped me develop a sense of agency in a world that can feel overwhelming and isolating. Studying somatic therapy in particular helped me develop this sense in the context of relationships and healing in community. Body-based and expressive arts techniques work on a deep, often nonverbal, level to help you re-pattern conditioned responses to stress and heal from trauma that may be unconscious or unspeakable. I received my Psychology BA (2005) and Masters of Education in Counseling (2009) from UAF, but it was my recent studies with Embodied Neurobiology (2024) which facilitated a deeply felt knowing of trauma responsive practices, embodied social justice, and the power of imagination and play.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I view human behavior as adaptive responses to broken systems, not broken people. To support the queer community in Alaska I teach sociology and embodied self-care classes/workshops using critical race theory and cultural humility to listen with compassion. I offer group experiences to highlight the power of healing in community. Choice, dignity, connection, & humor are key components in all of my work including collaborations with ANDVSA, The Fairbanks Queer Collective, the Breadline, and the Fairbanks Wellness Coalition. I perform drag to challenge binary and heterosexual norms in a way that is both fun and confronting. Ultimately, I am intensely curious about all forms of self-expression and the stories we tell each other (and ourselves). You are the author of your story, but all tales need an audience. I am genuinely excited to meet you and serve the exploration of your story and how to live more skillfully!
