About My Clients
All of us will experience hardship in its various forms throughout life. Sometimes our distress is at a level we can manage with our existing supports and coping skills. Sometimes our distress exceeds the level that we can manage on our own. If this is the case for you right now, I am happy to connect with you and help you along in your journey.
My Background and Approach
Whether it's daily life stressors, trauma, relationship difficulties, suicidal ideation, or the burdens of living in a capitalist world, I am here to connect and help. People with gender/ sexual/ relationship minority identities can feel comfortable reaching out to me. Much of my professional experience is in the field of domestic and sexual violence, working both with people who have experienced these things as well as those who have used this type of harmful behavior in relationships. My interest as a professional is to help my clients take responsibility for their own healing as well as their own misdirected/ harmful behaviors. In my approach to therapy, I value emotionally focused and experiential activities, as well as using elements from DBT, CBT, Gestalt, and Jung to help clients in their daily lives. I am also an EMDRIA certified EMDR therapist. I also highly value mindfulness as a way to navigate our feelings and experiences- including physical pain.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As much as it is tempting, I do not believe listing my various identities and affiliations will help everyone in the therapeutic process. However, some of these identities have very much influenced my professional development. Here are some ideas I try to keep at the forefront of my professional practice: - Capitalism is damaging but most of us still have to navigate a capitalistic world on a daily basis - Race, gender, sexual, and romantic orientation can heavily influence our experiences in this world, as well as our perspectives and attitudes towards ourselves and others - Certain feelings and experiences are within the range of expected experiences in the world, and sometimes we can relate to our emotions, sensations, and experiences in a way that is damaging to our goals in life. I believe we can develop ways to navigate these things that makes our lives more whole and healthy.
