My Background and Approach
Cognitive behavioral approaches are often a first line treatment for coping with distressing symptoms of depression and anxiety because it offers an effective way to reduce distress quickly through straight forward and accessible skills you can immediately start using. CBT also provides a strong foundation for deeper work. For clients who experience MH symptoms as somatic (physical) symptoms or illness, somatic strategies can be very useful to augment cognitive and behavioral wor. Depending on needs, I incorporate strategies from DBT, ACT, Collaborative Problem Solving, Compassionate Inquiry, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Narrative therapy, and Somatic experiencing skills. Therapy is client centered and strengths based. I believe in harm reduction, so please consider coming if you are ready to address even one aspect that you want to change. My therapy practice is firmly rooted in social justice, and therapy is always provided with a trauma informed and strengths based approach
