About My Clients
Often, people feel stuck, disempowered, and traumatized by life, its circumstances, and the oppressive systems that surround us. Feeling the weight of these systems makes it difficult to access spaces that feel safe enough to create, play, and explore. My goal is to provide that space for you and to remind you that you deserve to take that space by using creative approaches that will lead you to rehearse and experience the life you want and can have.
My Background and Approach
I am a licensed mental health counselor trained in drama therapy. I use experiential and creative arts techniques to develop coping skills and strategies and deepen your understanding of what you're going through. I have also integrated this knowledge with other counseling theories (attachment, mindfulness, CBT) in a way that is flexible to what you think will be beneficial. Once we gain understanding of your experience and how it's impacted you, we work collaboratively on what next steps you want to take in empowering yourself. In my experience, I've worked with youth, adults, couples, and families and used drama therapy techniques for clients to learn coping skills, identify barriers to their success, and navigate relational dynamics that impact their daily life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a firm believer that representation is important in our field. I am currently in the process of decolonizing my work and honoring my clients' and my ancestries through rituals in my work. It doesn't escape me that part of my work is navigating a system that actively oppresses me and my clients, and that in some ways, I am still complicit in these systems that seek to categorize and box marginalized voices. My goal is to uplift and elevate the voices of youth and young adults in BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities because they deserve better, and we all need to be better for ourselves and for them.
