About My Clients
Are you a chronically high-achiever or people-pleaser? Have you accomplished many of your life goals, but still feel stuck, unsure of what to do next? Did you grow up in an emotionally insecure household where you had to find ways to make your emotions more palatable to others? If these questions resonated with you, I look forward to working with you to bring balance back to your life, empowering you with tools and strategies to reconnect with your authentic self.
My Background and Approach
I hold a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Arizona State University and have extensive training at diverse sites including college counseling centers, VA hospitals, and public hospitals. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the VA Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center and my postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Adult Psychiatry. My areas of expertise include trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship stress. I approach therapy with compassion and warmth, creating a safe space where you can freely explore your thoughts and emotions. Grounded in culturally-informed practices, I specialize in evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These approaches have been shown to effectively address various challenges, helping you deepen your self-understanding, change unhealthy habits, and reconnect with a meaningful, values-aligned life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a second-generation Chinese American woman, I am deeply committed to culturally-informed and evidence-based practices in therapy. My journey toward earning a PhD was fueled by a passion for de-stigmatizing mental health issues, particularly within Asian American and immigrant communities. Through my research, I have focused on addressing racial disparities in health, mental health, finances, and education, amplifying the voices and experiences that often go unheard. I am a strong advocate for social justice and equity, standing firmly for Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ+ rights. I believe that everyone deserves access to mental health resources, free from stigma and discrimination. My commitment to service is reflected in my leadership roles within the Asian American Psychological Association, where I proudly served as Chair and Vice Chair of the Division on Students.
