About My Clients
NOTE: I am currently waitlisting clients as I acquire supervision. My clients all have their own story and unique strengths and challenges. Some of them have been in a lot of therapy, and for others I'm their first counselor. Believe it or not, my clients are stronger, smarter, and 1,000x more capable than they believe. My clients teach me every single day, and for that I'm eternally grateful. <3
My Background and Approach
Like online dating, it's hard to know from a photo or a write-up if a counselor is going to be a good fit. There is so much to personality, communication style, individual needs, and what people both have to offer each other. The therapy methods used become less important if a client regularly feels "silently judged" or they simply can't stand their counselor's voice. The strengths I bring are transparency, integrity, relatability, vulnerability (oh yes, I'm quite human!), creativity, kindness, flexibility, and a deep desire to always be a student at life. Some people think I'm fun/ny? I prefer neurobiological approaches and love teaching other people the "how" and "why" behind some of our struggles in life. I have found that understanding begets (or creates) patience; understanding ourselves helps us to be more patient with ourselves, which is a great way to create more room for change and healing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have a wide range of interests, education, and experience, and my clientele as a therapist consistently seems to mirrors this - keeping life fresh. I have specialized experience in working with Trauma, Autism, ADHD, Parenting, Behavioral Issues, School issues, Veterans, Size Differences, Chronic Pain, First Responders, and LGBTQIA+. I actively work to advocate for people that are marginalized and oppressed, and seek to repair harm done by the mental health institution to people that have historically been marginalized and oppressed, including people that identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, people with a minority or non-religious status, people with size-differences, and people with low socio-economic status. I have worked with multiple non-profits to improve services in Colorado for caretakers of people with mental health disabilities and also serve on a board of directors for a non-profit serving formerly incarcerated persons. Justice is my gig.
