About My Clients
I work with clients with a variety of symptom presentations who are curious about their experience and want to learn more about themselves. I don't pathologize the people I work with. I find that symptoms, destructive behaviors, and patterns of painful experience are often an attempt to solve a problem and were at one point necessary for survival. From this perspective, I see my clients as adaptive and resilient. We will work together to make sense of your experience and enrich your life.
My Background and Approach
I provide individual counseling and psychotherapy for adults from all walks of life. My approach is informed by modern psychoanalysis which tells us emotional and behavioral challenges often stem from wounds in our past, and they manifest in our lives through distressing symptoms and patterns of painful experience. When left unattended, these patterns will continue to surface again and again until we bring awareness to them. Early wounds are often relational in nature, so the work I do may include exploring experiences in early life. However, we focus on what is happening the in the here and now- in your life and in the therapeutic space together. Narratives that were instilled in us as children are often accepted as reality without question, but now they may be counterproductive, harmful, and can interfere with a healthy adult life. Putting thoughts to words in a safe space allows these messages to come to surface where they can be metabolized and released.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We are so much more than a diagnosis. Life is complicated, but therapy doesn't have to be. I am curious about the experience of others, and I strive to create an environment where you can be truly heard, seen, and believed.
