About My Clients
Welcome! I'm Jaala Davis, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate supervised by Claudia Thompson, LMFT-S, LPC-S. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Virginia State University (2004) and a Master of Arts in Counseling from St. Edward’s University (2023). I'm committed to creating a safe space for individuals to embrace their authentic selves. My focus includes working with individuals, relationships, and underrepresented communities such as BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
My Background and Approach
I am dedicated to creating inclusive and empowering therapeutic spaces that resist systems of power. My approach is grounded in collaborative, strength-based, and person-centered therapy, blending various modalities to suit the unique needs of each client. I emphasize the importance of autonomy and weave lessons of self-advocacy within an oppressive system into the therapeutic space. I encourage my clients to provide feedback on the therapy relationship, adapting my approach to better serve their needs. While therapy can sometimes feel formal, I avoid holding too tightly to certain restrictive, outdated rules of professionalism and allow my personality to shine through. Clients can bring their authentic selves into the therapy space – their personality, lived experiences, and identities will not be suppressed.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that in life, we all face challenging times, and for some, navigating these challenges alone can be difficult. People often lack a safe outlet to discuss vulnerable thoughts, feelings, or emotions, fearing judgment or being looked down upon. I see therapy as a fundamental tool to help support people through life's uncertainties.
